July, 2009:

Green Beans and Raspberries

E’s a picky eater, always has been.  She loves the basics so when we finally get something new in her mouth it’s a big success.  We had to use some motivation though … you can play with grandma’s ipod and we’ll take you to the park, but it worked and today was the first day for raspberries.

C has successfully moved on to veggies; green beans.  It’s the first food he tried since we introduced oatmeal a couple weeks ago.  It’s a relief that he picked up on eating with such ease.

It’s a boy!

She would have been SO excited today to learn that our friends just had a baby boy.  I remember when she first found out they were pregnant and couldn’t believe that they kept it a secret when they had seen each other just a few weeks before.  Nevertheless she was so completely thrilled that another one of our friends were pregnant.

And now, the fact that it’s a boy and we each have two children that are the same gender and only months apart in age would have meant the world to her.  Now they really need to move closer to us 😉

Still, while it’s amazing news, it makes me sad to think how she’s not here to enjoy all this.  I can’t believe how quickly she was taken from us, so senselessly, while she was just trying to enjoy the day with the kids and take a break from the task of raising two kids while I was at work.

A day at the beach

P7191066If she was there too, it would have been a perfect day.  But it was still nice.  Me, the kiddies and everyone else (her fam) took a trip to the beach for the afternoon.  This July weather is just nuts … 70 on July 19th.   I personally don’t really mind it because there’s zero humidity and it’s really comfortable.  I just hope it doesn’t mean that summer will end soon.

Nevertheless, we spent the majority of the afternoon at the south end of the north avenue volleyball courts by Castaways.  I don’t think everyone was overly excited about going out for the day, but Corn went out there early to set up a net and I really pushed for the whole family to go.  By the time we left, I was convinced that everyone really did have a good time.

P7191084Because of the weather the beach was surprisingly empty for a July weekend, but that wasn’t all bad.  We were able to park in the lot by the boathouse and traffic wasn’t an issue at all.  The courts were all taken like usual with plenty of people playing v-ball.  We made friends with the neighboring court and probably played a dozen or so games.  Even lolo played and as it turned out she was better than most people out there…half as tall, but twice as good.

And E just had a blast.  We told her we were going to a big sandbox.  We brought with some sand toys and she ended up burying lolo in the sand.

She played volleyball too…she stood on the court anyways.

P7191088I took her for a walk along the water.  She was nervous at first.  The water was really cold.  We found some sand castles built by someone else.  She really has this thing about knocking them down.  Hopefully the kid who built them wasn’t watching because she knocked each one of them down.  She finally began to warm up a bit to the water and asked me to put her feet in.  Then I grabbed onto her arms and helped her jump over the waves.  She was laughing her head off.  Since the water was cold we headed back to the court.  But not even 15 minutes later she must have concinved uncle bobby to go back to the water and he and her actually went in.  I can’t imagine how cold it must have been but she didn’t complain…didn’t complain until it was time to get out of the water.  She had a blast!

P7191065As for C, little guy had a lot of fun too.  He tried to eat some sand but we caught it in time.  He smiled at everyone, just chilled out, and took a long nap in his stroller.  I can’t wait (well I can sorta wait) until he’s running around with his big sis.

Adjusting to life in the house

We spent a number of days at the house last week, leaving barely any free time … let alone time to write.

The first day wasn’t incredibly difficult.  Both kids went down relatively easy and C even slept for about 9 hours.  The second wasn’t quite so simple.  C woke up at midnight, E at 2, C at 6:30 and E at 7:30.  But we got in the house and hopefully we’re making some progress.  I think E really needs to be here.  It’s quieter and all her toys are here.  It’s a break that I think we both need.

Of course I wish I didn’t have to work so that I could just take care of them all the time.

I need a bike seat and trailer.  I need to do some more research on brands and I’m not sure if I’m overly excited about a trailer, but I think they would help me get out of the house.

I should be sleeping…

…but instead I’m uploading pictures to picasa for our friends.  And I’m already approaching my space limit and I’m not half way through.

Lil dude will probably wake up soon for a feeding.  Or better yet he’s going to wake up right after I fall asleep.  Although yesterday he slept til 5:15 so maybe it’ll be another 8+ hours again.  Of course that’s only helpful to me if I go to bed at 8p like he did.  It’s either going to be a long night or a very long day … or better yet both.
